James Monroe Ruyle, 85, of Morganton died Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Born in Champaign, IL on May 28, 1933, he was the son of the late John William Ruyle and Charlotte Jane McCartney Ruyle. James was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and worked in the printing industry for 40 years. He loved to weld, work on RVs, and camp.
James is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann Cagle Ruyle of the home; children, Judy Gillen (Russ), Cindy Howard (Jack), Sandy Rayburn, Karen Brown (Josiah), and Curtis Whisenant; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Bottenbery Ruyle; and a sister, Mary Ruyle Dart.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Donald Dula, Jack Howard, and Bishop John Smiley officiating. Military honors will be performed by the NC National Guard.
