James Phillip Ollis

James Phillip Ollis, 74, of Morganton, NC died Monday, April 20, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC. Born in Avery County, NC on May 19, 1940, he was the son of the late Doris Frisco Ollis and Virginia Ruth Buchanan Ollis. Phillip was a member of Mountain View #1 Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved to work in his garden and drive his tractor. Phillip was a man of great faith and served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Crestview Baptist Church while he lived in Dunn, NC. He was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Crawford Ollis of the home; children, Gregory James Ollis (Deborah Elizabeth Ollis) of Carthage and Eric Phillip Ollis (Laura Norris Ollis) of Morganton; brothers and their wives, Charlie Ollis (Ocie), David Ollis (Nancy), Claude Ollis (Jenette) all of Morganton, Simon Ollis (Lynn) of Matthews, and George Ollis (Nancy) of Nebo; sister and her husband, Alma Ollis Staton (Junior) of Lenoir; sister-in-law, Vera Whisnant Ollis of Morganton; grandchildren, Jeanie "Sissy" Ollis, Nathan Gregory Ollis, Robert Payton Ollis, and Michael Enoch Ollis; a number of nieces, nephews; and close personal friend, Nancy Powell and her children Nathan Powell and Kay Clark.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Donald Ollis; sisters, Annie Ollis Clark and Lena Ollis Patton.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2015 at Mountain View #1 Baptist Church with Reverends Blain Hudson and Don Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
