James R. Mayfield

James R. Mayfield, 76, of Glen Alpine, NC died Wednesday, December 16, 2015.  Born in Burke County, NC on May 17, 1939, he was the son of the late John Nelson Mayfield and Mary Louise Jordan Mayfield.  James loved NASCAR and playing the guitar.

Mr. Mayfield is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arlene Smith Mayfield of the home; son, Tracy Mayfield and his wife, Gail, of Morganton and Darren Mayfield and his wife, Janet, of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, David Mayfield and his wife, Courtney, Jessica Mayfield, April Randolph and her husband, Joey, Brian Mayfield, Daryl Norton, and Justin Mayfield; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Edwards of Morganton; and brothers, Leonard Mayfield, Johnny Mayfield, and David Mayfield and his wife, Vicky, all of Morganton.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son, Randy Brian Mayfield; and a sister, Maxine Allen.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Daniel McMahan officiating.  Burial will follow at Conley Road Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.  At other times the family will be at the home of the son, Tracy Mayfield, on Rabbit Ridge Road in Morganton.
