James Robert “Bob” Mangum

James Robert “Bob” Mangum, 70, of Glen Alpine passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2019.  Born in Burke County, NC on May 12, 1949, he was the son of the late James Edward Mangum and Winifred Louise Amos Mangum.  Bob was a member of Glen Alpine First Baptist Church.  He was a veteran of the US Navy and served aboard the USS Trumpetfish submarine.  Bob was a graduate of Glen Alpine High School where he played football under coach Jug Wilson.

Mr. Mangum is survived by his children, Bobby Mangum, Jr. (Vivian) and Julie Kirk (Lewie); and grandchildren, Madison Mangum and Kennedy Kirk.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Mangum.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Glen Alpine First Baptist Church.  The memorial service will follow at 12 p.m. in the church with Rev. John Terry officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the US Navy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
