James Smith, 60, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 following a period of declining health. Born in Cleveland County, TN on September 13, 1954, he was the son of the late Fairdy Burnice Smith, Sr. and Barney Mere Moorefield Smith. James worked at C & S Woodworking.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Paula Duckworth Smith of the home; children, Cindy Lumpkin and her husband, James, of Spartanburg, SC, James Allen Smith, Jr. and his wife, Tonya, of Morganton, Jason Eugene Smith of Columbia, SC, Kimberly Turbyfill and her husband, Tim, of Morganton, and Tabitha Jean Smith of Morganton; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty Shuffler and her husband, Bobby, of Lenoir, NC, Fairdy Burnice Smith, Jr. of Morganton, and Cindy Woody and her husband, Mike, of Lenoir.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Smith.
The family will receive friends at the family’s home at 204 La Colline Street, Morganton from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2015.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
