James Vernon "Jim" McDaniel

James Vernon "Jim" McDaniel, 85, of Carbon City Road, Morganton, NC died Monday, October 4, 2010 at Burke Palliative Care Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Burke County, NC on July 15, 1925, he was the son of the late George Thomas McDaniel and Junie Mae McDaniel. James was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris Rose McDaniel of the home; daughters, Darcie M. Woods of Lexington, SC and Betty M. Landers of Morganton; a sister, Georgia Walker and husband, Johnny, of Morganton; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ruby McDaniel; and brothers, Charles "Bill" McDaniel and George "Tom" McDaniel.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 8, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Cline officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Calvin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery. At other times the family will be at the residence.
