Janice Hutchins Buchanan

Janice Hutchins Buchanan, 64, of Morganton died Monday, October 7, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Burke County, NC on December 7, 1948 and was the daughter of Jeanne Wakefield Hutchins of Morganton and the late Ross David Hutchins. Janice began her career as a medical secretary at Broughton Hospital where she first met her husband, Randy. Once her boys were born she stayed home to begin the career of her life. She was a devoted mother and was active in the cub scouts program with her sons. She and Randy were very active in the Freedom High School Band Boosters where she was a second mom to many. When her sons got older she then went to work at Table Rock Printers. She loved making crafts and was known for her one-of-a-kind handmade Christmas ornaments. Janice was also a devoted "Granni Jani" to her four grandchildren. She was a member at Mountain Grove United Methodist Church.Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Randy Buchanan of the home; sons, David Buchanan and wife, April, and Jeffrey Buchanan and wife, Christy, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Courtney Jeanne Buchanan, Elly Buchanan, Chloe Buchanan, and Ross Buchanan; sister, Kathy Smith and husband, Rocky, of Morganton; and nieces, Angela Carson and husband, Philip, of Hickory and Kristin Ivey and husband, Brad, of Deep Gap; and many close friends whom she dearly loved.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2013 at Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., Thursday at Zion Baptist Church. At other times the family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690 or to Blue Ridge HealthCare Cancer Center, 720 Malcolm Blvd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
