Jean Brittain Abshire

Jean Brittain Abshire, 94, of Morganton, NC went to her heavenly home September 6, 2022.

Jean was born in Burke County on November 8, 1927 to the late James Robert Brittain and Belle Huffman Brittain. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Morganton and loved her church and family.

Jean taught Kindergarten at First Baptist, and was active in the church choir for many years.  She was a talented seamstress, very artistic, fantastic cook and enjoyed canning goods from her garden. Jean also loved flowers and enjoyed going RV camping all over the country.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Susan Rudicil, Barbara Franklin (Jim), and Linda Brooks (David); grandchildren, Waverly Rudicil, Hannah Franklin, Allison Little (Sean), Matthew Franklin, and Abby Nunẽz (Alex); great-grandchildren, Karis and Toby Rudicil and Dylan and Trevor Little; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Alfred Abshire; brother, Ned Brittain (Margaret); and her sisters, Gladys Mull (Bernard) and Louise Phillips (Bill).

The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Morganton. The service will follow at 2 p.m. with Dr. Thomas A. Bland Jr. officiating.
