Jean D. Carson, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Jean was born August 30, 1935, in Wake Forest, North Carolina to the late Joseph and Ella Davis. Jean moved with her family to Morganton in 1966 where she lovingly devoted 42 years to Rutherford Electric Membership Corp and her community. Jean was a faithful member of First Advent Christian Church for 24 years. Jean was an avid reader, loved traveling and taking vacations and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna (Bruce); son, Cecil; grandchildren; Alicia, Amber (Shannon), Jodi, Sarah, and Dusty (Rachel); great grandchildren, Mason, Benton, Reilly, Paris, Dalton, Trenton, River, Lakelyn; great great-granddaughter, Oaklynn; brother Rufus “Buddy”; sister-in-law Margaret; close family friends, Debbie, Suanna, JR, and Chris and Joe; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Carson, parents and siblings, Cecil “Bones”, Foster “Bill”, Joseph Jr. ‘JB”, Richard, Wilbur “Curley”, Milton “Stump”, Joyce, Philip, and Vernon.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 31, 2023, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Pastors Brandon Clemmons and Javier Guzman officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. Casual attire is requested by family.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood Street, NW, Lenoir, NC 28645. The family would like to personally thank all the nurses and staff that took such wonderful care of little Nan.
We will all dearly miss the outgoing, generous and loving woman who was at the center of our family. Until we meet again, Nanny.
