Jean Whisnant Rarick

Jean Whisnant Rarick, 67 of Tellis Lane, Morganton, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior and her loved ones whom had gone before her on Friday, December 8, 2006 following a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on March 27, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Tellis Cameron Whisnant and Lettie Ann Powell Whisnant. Jean was a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church where for many years she was in charge of the children’s Sunday School Department. She was a 1957 graduate of Oak Hill High School. Jean loved and cherished her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Rarick; brothers, James, Charlie, Bill Jack, Pinky, and Joe Ben Whisnant; and a sister, Bobbie Clay.

Surviving are her children, Madalyn McMahan and her husband, Greg of Morganton and John Rarick and his wife, Gina of Granite Falls, NC; a brother, Ronnie Whisnant and his wife, Dinah of Morganton; sisters, Mickey Whisnant, Hannie Owens, and Aileen Fisher and her husband, Jerry all of Morganton; grandchildren, Natosha, William, and G’Lellier McMahan, and Chase Rarick; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members.

The memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2006 at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ralph May and Rev. David Orders officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Memorial gifts may be made to Zion Baptist Church Children’s and Youth Departments, 3396 Pea Ridge Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
