Jeanette Wilson, 87, of Eastcrest Drive, Fairview, NC, formerly of Maple Lane, Morganton, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC following several years of declining health. Born in Polk County, NC on September 10, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Americas Helton and Bessie Williams Helton.Jeanette was a current member of Calvary Baptist Church in Morganton. She was a former member of Mt. Home Baptist Church where she was both a youth and adult Sunday school teacher and past member of the WMU. She graduated from Asheville Normal Teachers College and retired from Drexel Primary School with thirty years of service. She was a Burke County Teacher of the Year and a member of the State Teachers Association. She was a current member of the Mimosa Chapter #269 of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Wilson loved growing a garden and sharing it with her neighbors and friends.She is survived by her daughter, Roanna Wilson of Fairview, and will be greatly missed by her faithful companions, Molly, Cody, and Murphy.In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Walden Wilson, Sr.; a son, Austin Walden Wilson, Jr.; six brothers, and three sisters.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 6, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in Coopers Gap Baptist Church Cemetery in Polk County, NC. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Home Baptist Church Building Fund, 2272 Mt. Home Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
