Jerome Epley, 89, of Morganton, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018. He was born on September 27, 1929 in Burke County to the late Carlie Oda Epley and Bonnie Duckworth Epley. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served as a medic and also earned a Purple Heart. He built and owned the first car wash in Morganton and then opened Epley Motor Sales. He and his late wife owned and operated Linville Shores Campground at Lake James.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Lackey Epley and sister Aileen E. Tallent.
He is survived by his son, Kenny Epley (Deedra) of Morganton; daughters, Sharon Robinson (David) and Patti E Cornell (Garry) all of Morganton; grandchildren, Jessie E. Short (Doug), Josh Epley, Graham Cornell (Destiny Franklin), Kristen Robinson; great-grandchildren, Will Short, Ashlyn Robinson, Camillia Cornell and Bonnie Short, who will arrive in January; sister, Helen E. Gayler of Morganton; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30pm til 2:00pm, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. A graveside service will follow at 2:30pm at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Elaine Hall officiating. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd, Valdese, NC 28690.
