Jerry Hodges

Jerry Hodges, 62, of Morganton went to his Heavenly Home on Friday, March 30, 2012 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Born in Avery County, NC on July 16, 1949, he was the son of Mary Ruth Miller Hodges of Charlotte and the late Mark McCoy Hodges. Jerry was a very active member of Son Light Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir, and was a teacher and superintendant of Sunday School. He retired from Broughton Hospital and had worked in construction.In addition to his mother, Jerry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara Hamm Hodges of the home; children, Angie Hodges and Charlie Hodges, both of Morganton; grandchildren, Jerri Mackenzie Hodges and Kennedy Ray Hodges; a brother, Will Hodges and wife, Patricia, of Vilas, NC; sisters, Wanda Murphy and husband, Van, of Charlotte, NC, Brenda Goodin of Columbus, TN, and Joyce Ann Hodges of Charlotte; and an uncle, J. T. Hodge.In addition to his father, Jerry was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Terry, and Douglas Hodges.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2012 at Son Light Baptist Church with Reverends Jimmy Harmon and Bud Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
