Jerry Reed Williams, 67, of Calls Lodge Court, Morganton, NC died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center following a courageous year long battle with cancer. Born July 5, 1943 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Karey Reed Williams and Levada Braswell Williams. For 32 years, he and his wife, Trudy owned and operated Jerry’s Neighborhood Store at the intersection of E. Meeting and White Streets. Because of Jerry’s affable ways, he was blessed with loyal customers who became friends. He loved gardening and was an avid jigsaw puzzle aficionado. Jerry took great pride in the love of his family. He was a devoted member of First Advent Christian Church where he served as a trustee. Jerry’s family expresses their sincere appreciation for the loving care shown to him by Dr. Doug Thompson, Dr. Greg Jones, and Dr. Russell Howerton and their staffs, and the staff of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Trudy Clontz Williams of the home; a daughter, Dana Williams Price and her husband, Blaine of Morganton; a son, Rev. Darren Williams and his wife, Rev. Jessica Williams of Seneca, SC; a brother, Ted Williams of Advance, NC; sisters, Pat Pruett and her husband, Carl of Hickory and Linda LaFevers of Morganton; a granddaughter, Katie Hamby of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at First Advent Christian Church with Pastor Adrian Shepard, Rev. Darren Williams, and Pastor Allen Pruett officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour. At other times the family will be at the home of Donald and Clara Hunt, 2885 Ramblewoods Dr., Valdese, NC.
