Jerry Wayne Cannon

Jerry Wayne Cannon, 67, of Trinity Church Rd. in Valdese died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Valdese General Hospital following a period of declining health. He was born July 21, 1942 in Burke County, NC, and was a son of the late William McKinley Cannon and Cecile Rhodes Cannon. Wayne was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church. In 1964, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Appalachian State Teachers College. Wayne was a former President of AIIE (American Institute of Industrial Engineers), and worked as an industrial engineer at Hanes, Shadowline, Tanner-Doncaster, and Alba Waldensian. He was recently employed as Community Production Coordinator at Western Regional Vocational Rehab.Wayne is survived by his wife, Mahala Powell Cannon of the home; daughters and their husbands, Tamara Joan and Darrell Biddix of Pawleys Island, SC, and Natalie Shea and David Secrest of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Brittany Shea Crump, Austin Wayne Couch, and Madison Hope Biddix; and brothers and their wives, Jimmy and Sylvia Cannon and Ray and Dorris Cannon, all of Lenoir, NC.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Martha Buff Welch and Rev. John Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
