Jessie Gantt Whitener

Jessie Gantt Whitener, 95, of Morganton, NC died Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Magnolia Lane Nursing and Rehab. Born in Cleveland County, NC on March 3, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Franklin Gantt and Rosie Mary Mitchem Gantt. Jessie was a member of Mt. Home Baptist Church and a retired employee of Broughton Hospital, where she worked for 28 years.Jessie is survived by her son, Jim Whitener and wife, Lynda, of Albemarle, NC; a daughter-in-law, Ann Whitener of Mt. Airy, NC; grandchildren, Cindy Williams and husband, Joseph, Kim Gwyn and husband, Ken, Mitch Whitener and wife, Susan; great-grandchildren, Christopher Wray, Adam Wray, Beth Johnson, and Kinston Whitener; a sister, Pauline Braswell of Morristown, TN; a special niece, Frances Houck and husband, Alvin; a number of other nieces and nephews; and her loving caregivers, Darlene Moon, Sue Richards, Courtney Davis, and Rhonda Carswell.In addition to her parents, Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Lee Whitener; a son, John Wayne Whitener; a daughter, Dorothy Whitener; brothers, Summie and J.C. Gantt; and a sister, Elsie Cook.The cryptside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2011 at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with Reverends Jerry Gamble and David Orders officiating.
