Jessie Mae Abernathy

Jessie Mae Abernathy, 97, of Brian Center East in Hickory, NC and formerly of Drexel, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born July 13, 1910 in Russellville, KY, and was a daughter of the late James and Teresa Chapman. Jessie was a member of the Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.She is survived by her son, Oliver Abernathy, Jr. of Valdese; and a sister, Kate Chapman. In addition to her parents, Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Alexander Abernathy; brothers, Jimmy, J.W., and Raymond Chapman; and sisters, Corra and Mary Lou.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2007 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. David Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 until 1 pm at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Oliver Abernathy, 1218 Drexel Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
