Jessie Mildred Carswell Hice

Jessie Mildred Carswell Hice, 95, of Vale, NC died Wednesday, April 4, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on March 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Elijah Carswell and Bessie Collins Carswell.  Jessie was a member of Grace Baptist Church.  She worked for many years in several area textile companies.

Jessie is survived by her son, Grover Eugene (Kay) Hice of Vale, NC; grandchildren, Terrie Whisenant, Jerry Wayne Whisenant, Barry Whisenant, Rocky (Dennis) Epley, Paula (Roy) Epley, Billy Hice, Jr., Steve (Mandy) Hice, Travis (Deana) Leatherman, and Angela (Evans) Rascoe; a large number of great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Carswell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Ivey Eugene Hice; son, Billy Hice, Sr.; daughter, Ossie Whisenant; brothers, John, George, Fred, Jim, Henry, Frank, and Charlie Carswell; and sisters, Rose Epley and Betty Hines.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, April 6, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Marty Bess officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
