On Saturday, April 30, 2016, God gained an angel, Jewel Denese Walker, 23, of Morganton, NC. She was born on January 12, 1993 in Burke County, NC and was the daughter of Jewel “Sky” Walker and Carolyn “Snap” Harbison. Jewel was a member of Gaston Chapel A.M.E. Church where she had sung in the youth choir, had ushered and was in the Y.P.D. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jewel was a graduate of Freedom High School class of 2011 where she was a starter on the girls basketball team. She worked at Marquee Cinemas and Dura Lee Mfg. She was a very sweet loving child who always had a smile and will be missed by all.
In addition to her parents she is survived by paternal grandfather, Shorty Nathanial Walker; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Harbison; sisters, Shanika Michaux, Tiffany Whittington, Remona Walker, and Shakelia Harbison; brother, Demetric Michaux; niece, Aaliyah Shuford; nephews, Exzayvier Shuford, Carter Michaux, and Jeremiah Harbison; uncles, Robert Harbison, Charles Harbison, Chris Walker, and Bernard Walker; aunts, Faye Walker, Twinkle Clark; and a host of cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at First Baptist Church. The funeral will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Chandler Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Caldwell Veterans Honor Guard and NC National Guard.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
