Jo Ann Bridgeman, 61, of Morganton, NC died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Burke Palliative Care Center following several years of declining health. Born November 11, 1951 in Letcher Co., KY, she was the daughter of the late John Astor "Babydoll" Short and Wanda Sexton Short. Jo Ann grew up in Jenkins, KY and moved to North Carolina twenty years ago to be with her family. She had attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and was a former employee of Burke County Department of Social Services.Jo Ann is survived by three sons, Torry Mullins and wife, Pattie, Chadwick Mullins, and Jonathan Akers, all of Morganton; six grandchildren, Phillip Akers, Scott and Patrick Harlow, Frank and Mackenzie Fields, and Joe Baldridge; a brother, Johnny Holcomb and wife, Patsy, of Houlka, Mississippi; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by three husbands, Charlie Bill Mullins, Phillip Akers, and Charles Bridgeman; a grandson, Daniel Mullins; and brothers, Roger, Richard, and Donnie Short.A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Ricky Speagle officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center, PO Box 2608, Morganton, NC 28680 to assist with funeral expenses.
