Joan Banks Erwin

Joan Banks Erwin, 57, died Sunday, October 9, 2011 in her hometown of Asheville, NC after a period of declining health. She was born August 14, 1954 in Columbia, SC to Lawrence and Betty Erwin. She graduated from Hollins College in Roanoke, VA and received her Master?s Degree at NC State College in Raleigh.Joan is survived by her two strong and courageous sons, Dan Entmacher of Boulder, CO and Devin Entmacher of Asheville; her sons? father, Dr. Ed Entmacher of Asheville (who is out of the country at this time); her long-time friend, M. Cissy Majebe of Asheville and her daughter, Genia, of Santa Fe, NM; a brother, John Erwin and wife, Mary, and their children, Will and Jack Erwin, all of Burlington, NC; her mother, Betty Banks Erwin of Morganton; and her wonderful, loving caregiver, Teri McKinney.Preceding her in death are her father, Lawrence Erwin; a brother, Eddie Erwin; her grandmothers, ?Nanny? and ?Grandmonk? to whom she was very close; and her very special aunt, ?Ibby? Hutchins.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Beth Ann Vinay and Rev. Michael Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends in the cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers and because of her work and love for children, memorial contributions may be made to Barium Springs Home for Children, P.O. Box 1, Barium Springs, NC 28010 or to one?s charity of choice.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
