Joan Margie May, 85, of Morganton went home to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, February 13, 2020. Born in Lincoln County, NC on July 15, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Herman Leonard and Edna Gilbert Leonard. Joan was a member of Mt. Home Baptist Church.
She enjoyed traveling, camping, antique shopping, and especially enjoyed cooking. She also loved spending time with her family.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Betty Burnette; sons, Jimmy May (Melody) and Dennis May; grandchildren, Brandon Burnette, Brooke Walker, Chris May, Mackenzie May, Ashley Lowery, Samantha Killian, Alexandria May, and Sheyanne May; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by husband, Carl T. May; son, Tommy Allen May; brothers, Steele and Jack Leonard; sisters, Helen Ramsey and Betty Tallent; and son-in-law, Dean Burnette.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
