Joanne Smith Bollinger

Joanne Smith Bollinger, 70, of Glen Alpine, NC, loving wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Grace Hospital after a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on March 8, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Hunter Smith and Mary Estelle Duckworth Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lynn Bollinger; a brother, Ernest Smith, Jr.; and sisters, Louise Roper and Doris Smith.Joanne is survived by her son, Kevin Bollinger and wife, Susan, of Morganton; daughters, Misti Bollinger of Morganton and Bobbie Jo Bollinger of Glen Alpine; grandchildren, Kolten, Peyton, Dakota, and Greyson; brothers, Richard Smith of Morganton and Stephen Smith of Nebo, NC; and sisters, Ione Speagle of Morganton, Arlene Mayfield of Glen Alpine, Helen Gwyn of Morganton, and Donna Costner of Morganton; a step-son, Kenneth Bollinger of Morganton; a step-daughter, Barbara Shaffer of Morganton; and step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, and Robbie.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Conley Road Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Bill Rice and Pastor Kenneth Shew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
