Joe P. Williams

Joe P. Williams, 82, of the Salem Community, Morganton, NC went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Grace Hospital. Born in Burke County, NC on July 19, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph Preston Williams and Mona Pruett Williams. He was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church. Joe was a manager of the A. & P. Food Store and retired after 30 years. He then worked for Morganton Dye and Finishing for 10 years.Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Phifer Williams of the home; daughters, Aresa Boykin and husband, Bill, of Columbia, SC and Angela Mabry and husband, Darrell, of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Joe Tommy Causby; two nieces; and one nephew.In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by two sisters, Aileen Mull and Veredah Causby.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Burkemont Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. David Mills and Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burkemont Baptist Church, 4668 Burkemont Road, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
