John A. Smith, 66, of Morganton, NC passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 16, 2022. He was born on September 20, 1956 in Washington DC to the late Albert Smith and Janet Waddell Smith. John worked and retired from Washington Gas after thirty plus years. He also worked for M O’Herron in Pittsburgh, PA and Texas Utility Engineering in San Antonio, TX. He enjoyed traveling and electronics. John owned and operated Heather Fence Stakeout Company.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Christopher M. Smith.
John is survived his wife, Bonnie Smith; daughter, Laura Michelle Smith; granddaughter, Londyn O’Brien; sister, Bonnie Scoggins; nieces, Kaley Poag and Alexandra Sumner; former wife, Jeanne Mahoney.
Services will be held at a later date in Maryland.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
