John David “Sug” Dale

John David “Sug” Dale, 83, of Morganton passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 after a period of declining health.  Born in Burke County, NC on December 4, 1935, he was the son of the late Jerome A. Dale and Eva Arney Dale.  He enjoyed spending time outside, especially camping, bear hunting, and fishing.  John played football at Glen Alpine High School with Coach Jug Wilson.  He loved iced tea, fried chicken, and spending time with his family and friends.

John is survived by his son, Craig Killen of Glen Alpine; daughter, Diatra Washburn and Vonda Killen, both of Morganton; grandchildren, Kristofer Killen of Colorado, Tiffany Taylor of Wilmington, NC, Curtis Killen and family of Sanford, FL, and Michael Washburn and family of Newton, NC; 3 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alene Dale; nephews, Bill and Eric Dale; and niece, Susan Moore.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Elois May Wiik Dale; 2 brothers; and 1 nephew.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Elder Ted Brackett officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morganton Seventh Day Adventist Church.
