John David Withrow III

John David Withrow III of Morganton, NC passed away, Saturday April 3, 2021 at his residence. He was born on May 10, 1940 in Augusta, Georgia. He was the son of the late Rev. And Mrs. John David Withrow Jr. He was a member of Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church. John was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather.

John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Christina Withrow; daughter, Jamie Gladden and husband, Jeff of Morganton; son, James Withrow and wife, Johanna of Hampton, VA; sisters, Laura Beth Whisnant (Donald), Lelia Bruder; Brother, Reid Withrow; grandchildren, Ashley Johnson, Eddie Gladden, Trever Propst, Austin Gladden, Adrienne Stadler, Logan Withrow, and Kynsley Withrow; greatgrandchildren, Haven Gladden, Kobe Johnson, Ryleigh Gladden, and Cooper Propst; and his loving Pekingese, Millie.

John served in the Air Force Reserves. He attended Presbyterian Junior College, Lees McRae and was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne University. John was a corporate pilot for 20 years. He had a passion for racing and did some drag racing in his early years. He loved bluegrass music. John was an excellent dobro player and played in the bands, “The Dixie Grass,” “Bobby Denton and Laurel Creek,” and “Southern Blend.”

A memorial service will be held at 1pm, Friday, April 9, 2021 at Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church, NC 181 Morganton, NC. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family would like to thank the may family members, friends, neighbors, and the staff at Burke Hospice for all their love, compassion, and support.
