John Dietz

John Dietz, 74, of Morganton died Sunday, September 17, 2017. He was born August 25, 1943 in Burke County, NC and was the son of the late Russell Lee Dietz and Molly Gertrude Lewis Dietz. John was a devoted husband and father who put everyone before himself. He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity. John was on the National Dean’s List for 2 years at Western Piedmont Community College. He was a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator who loved animals especially dogs. John was a truck driver for 40 years and was honored with an award for driving 5 million miles accident free. He was well known for the birdhouses and feeders he lovingly made.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son, Bill Dietz and brother, Robert Dietz.
John is survived by his wife Ann Newell Dietz; sister, Martha Whisnant; adopted children, Alex and Carol Anderson; and his k-9 companion “Toby”.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 pm, Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Quaker Meadows Presbyterian church. The funeral service will follow at 1 pm at the church with Rev. Yvonne Thurmond officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church building Fund, 2698 NC Hwy 181, Morganton, NC 28655.
