John E. Hutchins

John E. Hutchins, 48, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, June 14, 2015 following a lengthy illness. Born September 25, 1966 in Los Angeles County, CA, he was a son of Bill L. Hutchins of Morganton and Janice Young Hutchins of Parkersburg, WV. John was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He recently retired as Chief Building Inspector for Lincoln County, NC and was formerly the Senior Building Inspector for the City of Morganton. He owned Next Generation Heating & Air and previously taught HVAC classes at Western Piedmont Community College. Formerly John was an Exalted Ruler of the Morganton Elks Lodge, volunteer fireman with Salem Fire and Rescue and Fire Engineer with the City of Morganton.
In addition to his parents, John is survived by his wife, Dawn Clarke Hutchins of the home; children, Eric Hutchins of Morganton, Destiney Tew of Acworth, GA, and Dylan Bollinger of the home; a brother, Tony Hutchins and wife, Kathey of Morganton, step-brother, Adam Warren and wife, Sandy of Dysartsville, NC; a step-sister, Amy McHone of Marion, NC; a sister-in-law, Deanna Clarke Wise of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Cassandra Hutchins; and his beloved pet, Ginger.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Abby Kocher officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 1206 Salem Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
