John G. Mabe

John G. Mabe, Jr., 85 of Southview St., Morganton, NC died Monday, October 27, 2008 at Grace Hospital. Born in Burke County, NC on June 22, 1923, he was a son of the late John G. Mabe, Sr. and Lollie Smith Mabe. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was a retired employee of Rutherford Electric where he had worked for over thirty eight years. John was a faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church where he had served in many capacities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Shinaman and a great granddaughter, Erin Walsh.Surviving are a daughter, Belinda Mascol and her husband, Bill of Columbia Station, OH; sisters, Amanda Mabe of Morganton and Betty Glasbrook and her husband, Sam of Drexel; grandchildren, Jennie Warner of Olmsted Falls, OH and Vickie Walsh and her husband, Dale of N. Olmsted Falls, OH; great grandchildren, Amanda and Alex Walsh of N. Olmsted, OH; a niece, Donna Glasbrook; nephews, Brad and Craig Shinaman; and a loving nephew, Alan Brown of Lodi, OH.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Reverend Michael Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall for one hour before the funeral. At other times the family will be at the home of Amanda Mabe. Memorial gifts may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 119 N. King St., Morganton, NC 28655.
