John Hoyt Woodard, 68, of Morganton passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Born in Burke County, NC on November 19, 1952, he was the son of William Elliott Woodard and the late Etta Mae Michaux Woodard. In addition to his mother, John was preceded in death by his brother, William “Rusty” Elliott Woodard Jr.
John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Anne Woodard; his sons, Christopher S Woodard of Charlotte, NC and Jonathan E Roseboro of Rockwell, Texas; his daughters, Elizabeth A Woodard of Morganton (partner, Stephen Baxter), Olivia K Woodard (husband, Adam Dalton) of Morganton and Shante J.E.H. Roseboro of Charlotte; and his father, William Elliott Woodard of Morganton and his sister, Barbara Conley of Morganton. He is survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
John is survived by special friends he considered to be his brothers Woodrow Ervin of Morganton, Mack Kidd of Morganton, and Alfred Moore of Lenoir with whom he loved to share stories of their antics together.
John began his career with the State of North Carolina as a correctional officer in the mid 70's. He worked in law enforcement for approximately 40 years beginning with the City of Morganton as an officer, Southern Pines as a detective and then the Burke County Sheriff's Dept as a detective. He was also employed with Delta Police for a period of time as a private officer. He later returned to finishing his career as a correctional officer with the state of North Carolina.
A private family service will be held for Mr. Woodard.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
