John “J” Norman Sutton, II, 43, of Birmingham, AL passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016. Born August 3, 1973 in Morganton, NC, he was the son of John and Revonda Lail Sutton of McKenzie, TN, formerly of Morganton. He was a 1991 graduate of Ozark High School in Ozark , AR where he was a member of the Beta Club. He was also an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was awarded the Medal of Merit by the National Boy Scout Council for saving the life of Tom Fine of Ozark.
John was known for his infectious sense of humor and ability to make others laugh. He was also known for his kind, gentle heart and for being generous to a fault. He was an avid history buff, especially the civil war era. He loved looking for native American artifacts, hunting, and fishing. He was a great chef and prankster and enjoyed combining the two. His greatest joy was being with his family and sharing laughs with them.
In addition to his parents, John is survived by his daughter, Jayde Sutton Jones and her husband, Blake, of Columbus, GA; a son, Chad Sutton of Mena, AR; grandsons, Bentley and Gunner Jones; a sister, Kelly Sutton Blaine and her husband, Clint, of Huntingdon, TN; nephews, Kail and Jackson Blaine; nieces, Erika and McKinley Blaine; his beloved maternal grandmother, Lois Scott Lail; aunts and uncles, Jeannie and Turner Snipes of Morganton and Warren and Linda Lail of Sante Fe, NM; and cousins, Minthie Snipes Harrision and her husband, Anthony, of Four Oaks, NC and Sarah Snipes Whitley and her husband, Jacob, of Morganton.
John was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Norman and Ruby Sutton; and his maternal grandfather, Pinkney Lail.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 3 in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Elder Clint Blaine of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery.
