John Joseph “Bob” Bellas joined his Lord on October 16, 2014. Bob was born in Larksville, Pennsylvania to John and Mary Bellas on May 8, 1924. He was a combat veteran of the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during the Second World War and was a member of the 43rd Infantry Division Association and the American Legion. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory, and he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, a gentleman farmer, and he loved to travel. He was the leader of the family, and he never met a problem or a broken machine that he couldn’t fix. He was devoted to his Lord, his family, his country and his church.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary, and his sisters, Dorothy Grega and Marion Sinkove.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Betty, his son Eric, daughter in law Cindy and Granddaughter Faith, all of Drexel, nephew John “Jack” Grega, niece Kathy Hubbard, cousin Ralph Katrosh, and Anne Marie Souza, daughter of his lifelong best friend Vinnie Calvitto.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory, NC with Father Matthew Codd officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Carverton, PA at a later date.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
