John Lindsey Hall, 97, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Burke Palliative Care Center following a brief illness. Born in Metasville, GA on February 28, 1914, he was the son of the late George Teasley Hall and Sallie Rebecca Thornton Hall. John was a long time member of First Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener and specialized in raising numerous roses and flowers. For many years he was a member of the Junior Order Organization.From 1934 to 1939 he worked as a field leader in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Ruthledge, GA. He also worked several years at the ship yard in Wilmington, NC, before moving back to Morganton. Upon his return to Morganton, he worked for Drexel Heritage Furnishings making sandpaper belts until he retired.John is survived by his daughter, Connie Hall of the home; a son, David Hall and wife, June, of Rock Hill, SC; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Hall of Rock Hill, SC; brothers, Curtis Hall, Lewis Hall, and G. T. Hall, all of Metasville, GA; sisters, Frances Lloyd and Lucille Lloyd, both of GA; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Smith Hall; his step-mother, Florence Hall; and a sister, Minnie Bell Hall.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
