John W. Roper, Jr.

John W. Roper, Jr., 84, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, June 2, 2015.  Born in Burke County, NC on August 24, 1930, he was the son of the late John Wesley Roper, Sr. and Hattie McDaniel Roper.  John was truly a man who could never be replaced or forgotten.  He will always be in our hearts and minds.  We love you daddy.

Mr. Roper is survived by his wife, Ellen Davis Roper of the home; daughters, Belinda Kay Sutphin and her husband, Charles, of Ohio and Debra Roper Johnston and her husband, Casey, of Morganton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Leroy Roper of Los Angeles, CA, Claude Roper of Drexel, and Richard Roper of Drexel.

In addition to her parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Larry G Roper; and four sisters, Agnes Keaton, Betty Johnson, Viola “Tiny” Norman, and Nancy Hipps Alexander.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2015 in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Darvy Hensley and the Rev. Jack Moses officiating.  At other times the family will be at the residence of the daughter, Debra, on Ralph Patton Road, Morganton.
