John Wayne Campbell, 73, of Morganton, died Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Charlie Norwood Veterans Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. John was born April 18, 1939 in Rutherfordton, NC to Ruth Elizabeth Pursley Campbell and the late James Andrew Campbell. He was a member of Morganton Seventh-Day Adventist Church and a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Army. In addition to his father, John is preceded in death by sisters, Ethel Runion and Evelyn Poteat; and a grandson, Andy Campbell.In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Anthony Campbell; son, Mike Campbell and wife, Renee, of Morganton; daughter, Lisa Machê Midgett of Maple, NC; granddaughter, Stephanie Campbell; sisters, Jane Lawing and Brenda Campbell, both of Morganton; brothers, Bruce Campbell, Tom Campbell, Bob Campbell, Leon Campbell and Ernest Campbell, all of Morganton and a number of nephews and nieces.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 at Morganton Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastors Barry Mahorney and Tim Sheridan officiating. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Morganton Seventh-Day Adventist Church Building Fund, 2187 Jamestown Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
