Johnny Ellis Miller

Johnny Ellis Miller, 69, of the Oak Hill Community died Sunday, August 18, 2013. He was born in Burke County, NC on May 20, 1944 and was a son of Carey Ellis Miller and Hazel Virginia Fortner Miller. Johnny was of the Baptist faith and loved his family and friends. He was a past member of the Oak Hill Fire Department and an avid hunter. He was a builder by trade.Surviving are his wife, Esther H. Miller; his first wife and mother of his children, Lois McKinney; his children, Dwayne E. Miller and his wife, Sunni of Mason, OH and Cassie A. Miller of Morganton; grandchildren, Cheyenne Moore, Chance Miller, and Peyton Arrowood; his siblings and their spouses, Betty and Jack Wilfong of Newton, Patsy and Harmon Bumgarner of Valdese, and Dallas and Debbie Miller, David and Cheryl Miller, and Owonia and Johnny Hudson all of Morganton; and a step-daughter, Ginger L. Scott of Rockwall, TX.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at El Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to El Bethel Baptist Church, PO Box 2518, Morganton, NC 28680 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
