Jon Richard Good, 70, of Morganton, NC passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. The son of the late Robert Victor Good Jr. and Jean Sanderson Good, Jon was born in Wilmington, Delaware on July 8, 1954.

A graduate of Catawba College with a B.S. in Business, Jon furthered his education by earning a master’s degree in early childhood intervention from West Virginia University. Jon began teaching young children with learning disabilities, eventually assuming supervisory responsibilities. On a different track, he sailed the east coast on tankers with Sun Oil. Given the opportunity of traveling the world, Jon began work as a commercial window glazer. Glazing for U.S. embassies, he often took Sherry with him around the globe, including to Finland, Kosovo, Indonesia, Russia, Israel, Kazakhstan among other countries.

Jon’s favorite activities included spending time outdoors at their home on the Linville River, relaxing by the fire pit, and taking in the sounds of the evening. He relished the freedom of the open roads on his Harley. As a youth, Jon achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Its values were incorporated in the way he lived his life.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 32 years, Sherry White Good; his sister Margaret “Peggy” Good Vermilya (Mrs.Peter); his nephews, Robbie Gross and John Good, and his niece Kari Yocum. In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his brother Robert Victor Good III.

A celebration of life will be held on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.

It has been many years since I've seen Jon but I have happy memories of our families spending time together as friends and neighbors on our mountaintop farms--me, my husband and son along with Jon and his first wife and their three children, Jasmine, Jade and Forest. I'm glad he could have the wonderful adventures described here and my condolences to his wife.

John was a great man, with a big heart. He was kind and generous to everyone he met. May he rest peacefully in arms of Jesus. My condolences to his wonderful wife Sherry and his family and friends 🌹

Though I only knew Jon for 6 years we enjoyed our time & conversations together. He taught me a lot of things on the job site & off the site. Jon & Sherry invited me to their home in the summer of 2022. I had such a wonderful time. I wish I could’ve got to visit one more time before Jon left us. He is a great friend and always will be. My condolences and prayers for Sherry and Family ❤️🙏
