Joseph "Fred" Propst

Joseph "Fred" Propst, 74, of Minneapolis, NC went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 1, 2010 at Cannon Memorial Hospital. He was born in Burke County on August 23, 1935 and was a son of the late Fitzuh Lee Propst and Annie Lou Dale Propst. Fred was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was a retired employee of the Morganton A. B. C. Store. Fred was a member of Cranberry Baptist Church and a former member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ila Faye Pyatte Propst of the home; sons, Jeffery Joseph Prost and wife, Gayle of Charlotte, NC and Ronald Dean Propst of Tucson, Arizona; a grandchild, Jeremy Joseph Grant; a brother, Jerry Propst of Marion, VA; and sisters, Lucille Phillips of Tucson, and Sylvia Hernandez of San Francisco, CA.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, March 4, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Thomas officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Valdese American Legion Post #234. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
