Joseph Hampton Brooks

Joseph Hampton Brooks, 85 of Morganton, NC died Monday, October 17, 2016. Joe was born in Jackson County, NC on April 24, 1931 and was the son of the late Adam Sylvester Brooks and Effie Rachel Estes Brooks. He was a devoted father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. Mr. Brooks made many sacrifices for his family. He loved spending time outdoors especially fishing, camping and gardening. Joe was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Burton Brooks, Jimmy Brooks, and Gene Brooks, Tommy Brooks, Johnny Brooks; and a sister, Peggy Sue Brooks Deaton.
Mr. Brooks is survived by a son, Joseph Wayne Brooks and wife, Susan of Greenwood, SC; daughters, Elaine Brooks Dale and husband, Chad, Loretta Brooks Adams and husband, Johnny of Vilas, NC, and Vickie Brooks Coffey and husband, David; brother, Bobby Brooks; grandchildren, Lori Hollifield, Daniel Roper, Jennifer Roper Bell, Rachel Lail, and DJ Coffey; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. Graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday at Burkemont Baptist Church Cemetery with Alan Calhoun officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Med Home Health and Hospice, 1955 Newland Hwy, Newland, NC 28657.
