Joseph “Jack” Milligan, 83, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 22, 2021. Born in Burke County, NC on August 7, 1937, he was the son of the late Ernest Melvin Milligan and Mary Edith Denton Milligan. Jack was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was a wonderful, loving, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He retired from Mimosa Hills County Club with over 30 years of service. Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid beekeeper.
Mr. Milligan is survived by his sons, Roy Milligan, Ralph Milligan (Peggy), and Tony Milligan (Marsha); nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Milligan Burleson, Betty Milligan Huffman (Paul), and Susie Milligan Dockery; brother, Leon Milligan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Elizabeth Brotherton Milligan; sister, Geneva Milligan Sprouse; and brother, Loy Milligan.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm., Wednesday, May 26 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 27 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Ellington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
