Joseph Walter “Red” Creswell, 88, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, March 29, 2015. Born October 28, 1926 in McCormick County, SC, he was a son of the late Joseph Walter Creswell and Rosa Frances LaFevers Creswell. Joseph was a US Army veteran of World War II, and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Gin” Brittain Creswell of the home; a son, Donald “Hootie” Creswell and wife, Wanda, of Morganton; a daughter, Pamela Creswell Shugart and husband, Michael Evan, of Glentana, Montana; grandchildren, Shane Creswell, Kiley Edwards, Paul Shugart, Kameron Gress and husband, Mark, and Rachel Shugart; eleven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Iris DeMates of Columbia, SC.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by siblings, Ray Creswell and Mary Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Father Jim Rains officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Alpine Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Happy Tuesday Group, 1865 N. Powerhouse Rd., Morganton, NC 28655, or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
