Joy Thompson

Joy Thompson, 65 of Morganton passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014 at her residence.
Joy was born in Mitchell County on April 7, 1949 to the late Ray Edward Thompson and Hazel Jean Vaughn Thompson.
Joy was an Appalachian State University graduate. She brought “Joy” to all she met. Joy taught school for 30 years with the last 20 years being in Burke County. She enjoyed life and was loving, caring and fun to be around.
Joy is survived by a son, Jordan Thompson-Gray of Conover; a daughter, Shelby Thompson-Gray Green and husband, Nathan of Morganton; sisters, Glenda Thompson of Plumtree, June Thompson Biddix of Mineral Springs; a niece, Kelly Biddix Dalton of Concord; special friends, Boo, Judy, Tommy, and Eddie; and a feline companion, Tiggums.
In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Arnold “Butch” Gray, Jr.
In death, Joy continues to teach by donating her body to Wake Forest Medical School. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014 at North Cross Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Crump officiating.
