Joyce Childers Hinkle

I hope I have made my parents proud by giving my word and sticking to it shows who I am.

Joyce Childers Hinkle, 67, of Hickory, NC went home to the Lord on Thursday morning, May 30, 2013 after a long fight with cancer. Born January 13, 1946 in Burke County, she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Inez Childers. Joyce was a retired Activity Director and hair stylist at Camelot Manor.She is survived by two children, a daughter, Michelle Barger and husband, Larry, and a son, Clint Smith and fiancée, Wendy Reid; grandsons, Michael McCall and Conner Smith; a brother; and an uncle, Oliver Childers and wife, Wanda.Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Hallyburton officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658, or to Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 6908 Oak Ridge Church Rd., Connelly Springs, NC 28612. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
