Judy C. Lawyer

Judy C. Lawyer, 64, of Morganton went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, August 17, 2017.  Born in Burke County, NC on May 17, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Erwin Moran Clay, Jr. and Blanche Vergie Coffey Clay.  Judy was a member of Grace Baptist Church.  She worked at Frye Regional Medical Center for over 20 years and recently retired from Broughton Hospital.  Judy was a wonderful cook who enjoyed playing the piano and gospel singing.  She was a caring and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was an advocate for her grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her husband, Michael Lawyer of the home; children, Byron Clay Phipps, Patrick Sloane Phipps and wife, Kristyn; Renee Marie Atkins and husband, Mike; and Bethany Ann Lawyer; grandchildren, Guiniveve Phipps, Elisabeth Phipps, Brienna Phipps, Johnathan Atkins, Ivy Miller, Ben Miller, Gabe Miller, and Faith Watts; a sister, Wanda Clay Norman; and a nephew, Chad Norman.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 pm, Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Grace Baptist Church.  A celebration of Judy’s life will follow at 4 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Marty Bess officiating.
