Judy Withers Setzer

Judy Withers Setzer, 75, of Dowling Park, FL, a Morganton resident for most of her life, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016. She was born in Burke County, NC on March 2, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Von Bernie Setzer and Nell Cannon Setzer. Judy had been an active member of First Advent Christian Church in Morganton until her move to Florida. She had a servant’s heart and used her gifts to lovingly care for those around her. She retired from Broughton Hospital in 1993.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, DeRae Nell Shuffler and her partner Rick Benfield, of Weaverville, NC and Elizabeth Shuffler Lamb and her husband Rev. Randy Lamb of Dowling Park, FL; and a brother, Terry Vaughn Setzer of Dowling Park, FL. Judy considered her most precious treasures to be her three granddaughters Madeline Elizabeth Shuffler, Lilian DeRae Lamb and Nellie Margaret Lamb.

A service to celebrate Judy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2016 at First Advent Christian Church with the Reverends Patrick Bradshaw and Jason Hilliard officiating. The family will receive friends and share memories at a luncheon in the church fellowship hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Youth Fund of First Advent Christian Church, 211 Lenoir Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
