Julia Ella Mitchum Baxter

Julia Ella Mitchum Baxter, 95, a 50 year resident of Reep Drive in Morganton, NC died Thursday, June 12, 2014. Born in Lincoln County, NC on October 15, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Clemmie O. Mitchum and Kimmie Jane Weathers Mitchum. Julia worked in a naval yard at Portsmouth, VA during WWII. Later, she retired from Broughton Hospital with thirty-seven years of service. She was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.

Julia is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Leatherman and her husband, Buddy, of Vale, NC; a granddaughter, Cassondra Ellen Leatherman; a great-grandson, Avree Casson McCoy Trivette; and a sister, Merlene Mitchum Yates of Morganton.

In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William Dorce Baxter; two brothers, W. G. Mitchum and John H. Mitchum; and two sisters, Lily Mitchum and Ollie Frances Mitchum Kincaid.

The graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Jeremy Sapp officiating.
