Julia Viola Hawkins Price

Julia Viola Hawkins Price, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, age 94, of Morganton died Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Autumn Care of Drexel with all of her children by her side following a period of declining health. Born September 2, 1918 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Barto Hawkins and Mary Alysabeth "Minnie" Carswell Hawkins. Julia was a former employee of Drexel Knitting Mills, and Broughton Hospital where she worked in the dietary department. For many years, she volunteered at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center with the Foster Grandparent program. Julia was an avid gardener, enjoyed animals and the outdoors. She was a devoted member of Mt. Home Baptist Church.Julia is survived by children, Gary Price and wife, Bercie, Pat Lowman and husband, Eric, and Peggy Stephens and husband, Donald, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Kenneth Stephens and wife, Crystal, Terry Stephens and wife, Susan, Robert Stephens and wife, Denise, Tracy L. Moulton and husband, Bill, Celica Price and fiancée, Josh Chastain and his daughter, Lilly; and Spencer Price; great-grandchildren, Storm, Noah, and Hannah Stephens, Luke and Dustin Stephens, Wyatt and Tyler Stephens; and Abigail Moulton; step-children, Irene Yelton and husband, Wayne; and Mary J. Gladden; and step-grandchildren, Dawn and Greg, Lisa and Keith, Hamen, Issac, and Laura.In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Wilson Price; brothers, Herman Hawkins and Laban Hawkins; and sisters, Angie Lee Lane and Gladys Brittain.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Mt. Home Baptist Church with the Reverends Jerry Gamble and Robert Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Pat and Eric Lowman. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
