June Hobson Blakley, 89, of Morganton passed away Friday, September 15, 2017. Born in Yadkin County, NC on May 26, 1928, she was the daughter of John Oliver Hobson and Creola Choplin Hobson. June was a member of First United Methodist Church and worked as a Registered Nurse at Broughton Hospital for many years. She assisted with Red Cross blood drives and was a Girl Scout leader. She was also very active in school activities when her children were young.
June is survived by her sons, Barry R. Blakley and wife, Cindy, of Lawrenceville, GA and Mark E. Blakley and wife, Joyce, of Raleigh, NC; a daughter, Alice B. Smith of Newton, NC; grandchildren, Shelley Powell, Carrie Moffitt, Adam Blakley, Jenna Blakley, Samuel Blakley, Jacob Blakley, Meghan Simmonds, and Janet Smith; and great-grandchildren, Morgan Moffitt, Eli Moffitt, Frances Powell, Oliver Powell, and Brent Blakley.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, James Blakley, and 4 siblings.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 pm, Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The memorial service will follow in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Dana McKim officiating. Entombment will be held at a later date the First United Methodist Church Columbarium.
