Kathalene B. Whisenant

Kathalene B. Whisenant, 88, of Drexel died Wednesday, August 7, 2019.  Born in Wilkes County, NC on January 19, 1931, she is the daughter of the late Robert Souther and Jettie Anderson.  Kathalene was an active member of Zion Road Baptist Church.  She was a positive influence and a great witness to the Lord.

A loving mother and grandmother, Kathalene is survived by her children, Frank Brown (Jane) of Texas, Wilma Harrison (Jim) of Newton, Doug Brown of Lenoir, Jerry Brown of Valdese, Fess Brown (Barbara) of Icard, Vickie Hudson (Ron) of Morganton, and Mike Brown (Dian) of Drexel; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, R. G. Anderson (Bertha), and a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

In addition to her parents, Kathalene was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Whisenant; son, Larry Brown; grandson, Jeremy Brown; sister, Martha Bolick; and brother, Eugene Mathis.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Micah Piercy officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
